The third interview in a series of personal insights about why Wynyard Central is proving such a popular place to live. This week, we spoke to Private Banker Zrinka Marin, who joins the growing number of Aucklanders choosing to “luxury downsize” – from suburban family homes to stylish apartments surrounded by the best the city has to offer.
What are you looking forward to about living at Wynyard Central?
My husband and I currently live in our four-bedroom family home in Glendowie, but our kids have grown up and left the nest. When we go away, we’ll be able to ‘lock up and leave’ home, to enjoy our new freedom and lifestyle. Instead of jumping in the car, we’ll walk places like we did many years ago while living overseas. Auckland is spread out, but the Wynyard Quarter neighbourhood will have plenty of entertainment within walking distance: great restaurants, a new theatre, Westhaven marina where we keep our boat and the ferry to Waiheke Island, for weekend escapes.
What led you to consider apartment living?
We saw the announcement of Wynyard Quarter’s future development at the Auckland Boat Show around 10 years ago. We subscribed to email updates with the intention to one day buy an apartment there. We never gave up the idea and waited patiently in the hope that the opportunity would come about. In April this year we visited the display suite, which met all of our criteria: modern design, high standard specifications, and quality finishes. We are confident that the highly-regarded developer Willis Bond will deliver the promised apartment in a couple of years.
What stood out for you about the design and layout of your new home?
We love the ‘openness’ of the apartments, with high ceilings, large windows, a spacious layout and balconies for outdoor living. The lounge, dining and kitchen areas mirror our current living space, which suits us very well. It also means we can easily transfer some of our existing furniture, as well as buying new pieces to better define the new space.
