Looking for a new place to call home when not on the side-line or with family, New Zealand sporting icon Sir Graham Henry recently chose Willis Bond’s residential developments at Wynyard Quarter. This is the eighth interview in a series of personal insights about why Wynyard Central is proving such a popular place to live.
What were you looking for in your next home that you found here?
Raewyn and I are fortunate to able to spend considerable time in our holiday home on Waiheke, and we are at the stage in our lives when we don’t want to spend time looking after two houses with reasonably large sections –so an apartment with easy access to the Waiheke ferry is ideal.
What about the Wynyard Quarter location stood out among other city sites or fringe suburbs?
The water – this harbour is a big part of what makes Auckland special.
We are also very impressed with what Panuku Development Auckland is doing in the Wynyard Quarter. Such a world class development, winning international recognition and awards, is helping to make Auckland one of the most attractive cities in the world.
What attracted you to apartment living after years in your family home in Mission Bay?
We can ‘lock and leave’ and head to Waiheke, or we can pop out for a coffee, a wine or go to one of the many quality restaurants. The location is great for the family and the grand children to visit. If they get bored with granddad - they never get bored with grandma! - there is plenty to see and do, so I’m sure they’ll always be keen to visit.
